We urge life! The Healer’s Art Foundation is dedicated to the art of healing and preventing suicide attempts by removing barriers to help and by making suicide prevention services and skills accessible to people through the arts of healing and prevention:

  • The Art of Compassion
  • The Art of Conversation
  • The Art of Faith
  • The Art of Hope
  • The Art of Charity
  • The Art of Happiness

Together, these competencies and virtues comprise “The Healer’s Art.” Through them we inspire compassion, conversation, faith, hope, charity and happiness for school children, military personnel and first responders who suffer from depression, bullying and thoughts of suicide. We provide healing services, effective assessment tools, counseling, retreats, survivor communities and online resources to those in need. We make it safe to openly discuss and address the issue of suicide through community dialogue and social awareness.

We are an organization that empowers school students, administrators, military personnel, commanders and first responders to raise awareness about depression and to prevent suicide among their communities. We work to create appropriate education, training and assessment tools that support sustainable suicide prevention programs for school districts, military units and first responders.

We serve others because we care. We have learned The Healer’s Art. The Healer’s Art Foundation seeks to help communities and organizations by developing effective suicide prevention tools and action plans. The need is very great and our work begins by applying The Healer’s Art, starting with the Art of Compassion – simply caring for someone else.

The urge of suicide can be stopped through prompt assessment, monitoring and management of the risk. Caring and compassionate people who serve in many roles throughout every community can make unique and productive contributions to the prevention of suicide, once they become aware of the problem and acquire the knowledge and skills that unleash the power of their compassion. We provide caring and compassionate people with the appropriate knowledge, tools and skills to enable them to serve their communities.

How We Serve

We Urge life! We accomplish our mission by promoting and practicing the arts of healing and prevention that comprise The Healer’s Art:

The Art of Compassion

Kindness is a virtue. Compassion is an art and the Art of Compassion is simply showing love through the act of caring for someone else. Together we can make a difference in preventing suicide by providing compassionate interventions and promoting environments of acceptance and healing.

The Art of Conversation

Through the Art of Conversation we Urge Life! The Art of Conversation opens the door to assistance. Simply asking a person what is troubling them can make a positive difference. A timely question asked in someone’s hour of need is a compassionate answer to a cry for help. Urging them to choose life is a vital act of love.

The Art of Faith

Faith can mean a lot of things to different people, but the Art of Faith can answer some of life’s important questions: “Where did I come from?” “Why am I here?” and “Where do I belong?” The Art of Faith provides us all with an eternal perspective. It gives us all a place to call home.

hope1500r
The Art of Hope

Faith produces hope and hope creates the kind of optimism that provides healing and power over painful events. In this life, we learn that every painful experience holds lessons, and the more painful the experience, the more valuable the acquired truth. That is the real meaning of the Art of Hope.

The Art of Charity

Charity is the most powerful principle in the world. Through this paradigm of love, you recognize that you are not alone in this world. Charity permits you to transcend your mortal limitations and increase your capacity to love others and to give. In this life, God gives us all a second chance and all he asks is that we simply do the same for each other. That is the essence of the Art of Charity.

The Art of Happiness

The Art of Happiness teaches us that happiness never comes all at once. It’s not a destination we arrive at; it’s not some moment we eventually reach in time; it doesn’t exist just around the bend. No, happiness is a manner of traveling through life. It’s a choice. It’s a by-product that naturally comes from doing something nice for someone else.

After years of raising funds for many philanthropic causes, Tim Critchlow (JD) felt compelled to put his passion and resources into a charitable organization that would help students, military personnel and first responders who suffered from depression, bullying and thoughts of suicide. Born out of their compassion, The Healer’s Art Foundation, a 501(c)(3) public charity, was organized in April of 2017.

There comes a time in our lives when we become painfully aware of the impact of depression and thoughts of suicide in the lives of our family and friends. That marks the time we can no longer dismiss the matter. We can’t sweep the problem under the rug. We can’t ignore those who suffer from such terrible emotional burdens. Our hearts naturally turn to a cause that cries for attention. Depression and suicide ideation are highly treatable disorders. The first step is identifying them and then a crucial conversation can begin. People do not need to suffer in silence. Help is available, there’s always hope!
